Leid earns MVP honors, Flash finish in ninth at Morgan State

PERRY HALL, Md. (Feb. 20, 2012) – Behind an MVP worthy performance from freshman standout Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), the Saint Francis University bowling team ended the James Brown Tournament hosted by Morgan State with two solid wins.

Leid finished a strong first in individual results during traditional game play on Saturday. The Ephrata, Pa. native garnered Most Valuable Bowler honors on the All-Tournament first team, which is the top five individual averages. The right hander did this in a field of 126 bowlers with most of the top teams and top individual players represented in the field.

"Christina's focus and mental game was her key,” head coach Tom Falbo said. “Her week to week mind set is based on improvement from her last performance and her desire to contribute to the team. She had a great tournament."
As for the team during Sunday's final round, the Red Flash finished the tournament in ninth in the 23-team field. Sunday's matches were best of seven baker format.

SFU snuck past Hampton 4-3 in its first match of Sunday, with match results of 165-232, 245-188, 192-196, 174-179, 211-141, 185-161 and 189-169. Later in the day, the Flash took down No. 14 Kutztown 4-2, with match results of 168-173, 180-160, 210-167, 167-215, 180-172 and 213-191.

"This was a really good Sunday for the team,” Falbo said. “It was great to see the group not only stand up to adversity in matches but take control back right away. We're getting better on executing our plans while adapting well during our matches."

As a team, SFU averaged 190.7 per game on Sunday. Heidi Baumert (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) led the team with a 19.6 baker frame average.
