FULL PREGAME RELEASE
Saint Francis drops in on the second-place Quinnipiac Bobcats on Monday night to close out the 2011-12 regular season. After that, the only certainty is that the Red Flash will open up NEC tournament on Saturday.
The location? That's a little more complicated.
Saint Francis, at 10-7, is currently in fifth place in the NEC standings, tied with Mount St. Mary's. The Red Flash holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Mountaineers and every team below it in the field. Therefore, SFU can finish no lower than sixth place, regardless of Monday's results.
If, Robert Morris and Monmouth both lose tonight and the Flash and Mount St. Mary's win, Saint Francis will clinch the fourth seed and play in Loretto this weekend. Any other outcome will result in SFU opening up its postseason play on the road as a fifth or sixth seed.
Quinnipiac had won 10 of its last 11 games before being mowed down, 72-62, by red-hot Robert Morris on Saturday. A Saint Francis win would not only give Susan Robinson Fruchtl her 50th career NEC win, but also deny the Bobcats a shot at a regular season title, regardless of the RMU-Scared Heart outcome in Fairfield.
