Bowling wraps up NEC No. 2 with four wins

ALTOONA, Pa. (Feb. 5, 2012) – The Saint Francis University bowling team went an even 2-2 on Sunday to wrap up the second Northeast Conference event of the 2011-12 season.

Format for today's action followed the quint baker, total pinfall style that was also put in place on Saturday.

"We got a great win against Sacred Heart in a day which produced lower scores,” head coach Tom Falbo said. “Going 2-2 against the teams in this conference is a good day, but our team is capable of even greater days so we'll keep working hard to get better."

The Red Flash (45-36, 8-10 NEC) opened Sunday morning with a pair of tough back-to-back matches, squaring off with the No. 2 and 3 teams in the nation, Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart, respectively. SFU hung right with the Knights of FDU for the majority of the match, until FDU put up a 215 to the Flash's 187 in the final game of the match to earn the 911-866 victory.

In its second match of the early afternoon, the Flash pulled out a nail-biting 813-799 win over the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. SFU trailed SHU by nine pins heading into the final game and needed just enough of a cushion to pull ahead and earn the win. By rolling a 169 in the fifth game, the Flash did just that and topped Sacred Heart's 146 game to steal a win.

SFU earned back-to-back wins by downing LIU Brooklyn 976-915 in its next match of the day. An impressive showing was made during the fourth game of the match when they Flash trailed the Blackbirds in the middle frames. Saint Francis struck six times in a row from frames six through ten and came one swaying pin shy from making it seven in a row to close out the game.

Adelphi got the best of SFU in the final match of the day and weekend by landing a 933-864 victory.

Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) led the Red Flash with a baker frame average for the entire weekend of 20.551.

Saint Francis will take this weekend off before getting back to the lanes when they travel to Perry Hall, Md. for a tournament at Morgan State.
