SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 6, 2012) – After finishing the first round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational in third place, the Saint Francis University women's golf team placed seventh overall following Tuesday's final round.
The Red Flash carded a two-day team score of 687 (337-350) to finish ahead of Niagara in the eight-team field. Tournament host LIU Brooklyn claimed the team title with a final score of 647 (327-320).
By firing a two-round total of 160 (77-83), freshman
Mallory Cortis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) earned her best collegiate finish to date in fourth place in the 43-player field. Cortis ended her run just five strokes behind individual champion Cristina Santamaria from LIU Brooklyn.
Ann Colligan (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) was the second highest finishing Red Flash, coming in a tie for 22
nd with a 173 (84-89).
Samantha Smyers (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) placed in a tie for 24
th, one stroke behind Colligan with a 174 total (86-88). Freshman
Erica DeVal (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) shot back-to-back rounds of 90 to place her in sole possession of 34
th while fellow freshman
Paige Wojdyla (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) grabbed 41
st with a two-day total of 187 (97-90).
Saint Francis gets back to the course March 18-20 at the River Course in Williamsburg, Va.
