BOX SCORE NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2012) – The Saint Francis University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Niagara on Friday evening.
The Purple Eagles (3-3-0) and Red Flash (2-4-1) came out firing in the opening half, with Niagara outshooting SFU by a slim 9-to-8 margin. The Purple Eagles struck first in the 43rd minute of play when Maria Siegrist-Gabas fed a through ball to Hayley Besaw, who lofted the ball over Flash goalkeeper
Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) for the 1-0 lead headed into half.
Both teams continued to apply pressure in the second 45 minutes of play, as Niagara peppered Butcher with six shots, while the Purple Eagles' Claire Feiertag had to make eight stops.
Niagara's Catherine Meyer tallied her first goal of the season in the 79th minute to give the Purple Eagles a two-goal cushion. Meyer fired a high shot into the upper left corner off a feed from Jamie Raepple.
Saint Francis wound up out-shooting the Purple Eagles 16-to-15 on the day.
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) led the SFU offense with seven shots, four of which were on goal.
The Red Flash wraps up its New York swing on Sunday, battling Buffalo at 11 a.m.
