BOX SCORE NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2012) – Saint Francis U freshman
Brianna Brancato (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) registered her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute to lift the Red Flash past the University of Buffalo, 2-1, at Niagara Field on Sunday afternoon.
The late score, which gave SFU its first win away from Loretto this season, was the result of an
Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) corner. Gavin's assist ups her point total to five over the past three games, during which the Flash has compiled a 2-1 record.
Buffalo (2-5-1) tallied the game's first goal in the 17th minute thanks to Katie Roberts. The marker, which was Roberts' third of the season, stood up through the intermission until the Red Flash got on the board nearly 49 minutes later.
Flash junior
Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) scored her second goal of the season in the 65th minute to tie the score at 1-1. Midfielder
Stephanie Boulter (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) earned her first assist of the season on the play.
Outside of the early Buffalo goal, SFU goalkeeper
Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) didn't see much action, making one save in each half. The Red Flash, on the other hand, put eight shots on goal and outshot the Bulls 22 to 13 on the afternoon.
Saint Francis returns to Loretto on Friday as it welcomes Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m. to open Northeast Conference play. On Sunday the Red Flash welcomes LIU Brooklyn for a rematch of last season's NEC Championship game. The match with the Blackbirds kicks off at 2 p.m.
