BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md. (Sept. 22, 2012) – The Saint Francis University football team fell on the road in the team's final non-conference game of the season at No. 13/16 Towson, 46-17.
“That's a very good football team,” head football coach
Chris Villarrial said. “West is a quality running back and in my opinion one of the best in the country.”
Keion Wade (East Orange, N.J./East Orange) rushed for 70-yards on the ground and the first score of the game but it was not enough for the Red Flash (2-2, 1-0) against the nationally ranked Tigers (2-1, 1-0). Grant Enders threw for 179 yards and a pair of scores but a balanced rushing attack that featured 10 different rushers and racked up 262 yards on the ground led the way for the Tigers.
Ter'Shaudney Phillips (Deland, Fla./Deland) led the SFU defense with an early interception and eight total tackles.
The game started well for the Red Flash as Phillips picked off Enders on the first offensive drive of the game for Towson. SFU responded by driving 42-yards on three plays capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Wade to give the Flash a 7-0 advantage. The lead was short lived as Derrick Joseph took the ensuing kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown, tying the game at seven. The return tuned momentum in the game and started a run of 29-unanswered point run for the Tigers. Towson picked up 14-points from Terrance West, who rushed for scores of two-yards and 25-yards during the 29 point run.
After Towson picked up its fourth score of the game and the Tigers converted on a two-point conversion, Towson attempted an onside kick but SFU recovered. Following the onside attempt,
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) posted a 29-yard rush to put the Flash in scoring position. One play later
Dan Conley (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) rushed for a six-yard score to bring the game to 29-14. Towson added two more touchdowns before the half to dash any SFU hopes of a comeback.
Josh Thiel (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) picked up a 43-yard field goal in the second half and Towson added a 25-yard to close scoring the in the game.
Max Ma'afala-Maiava (Pearl City, Hawaii/Aiea ) posted a team high nine tackles and also picked up a tackle for loss.
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) also picked up eight stops for the Flash
