Red Flash lead after first round of Cleveland State Invitational

HINCKLEY, Ohio (Sept. 24, 2012) – Following round one of the Cleveland State Invitational, the Saint Francis University women's golf team leads all seven teams in the field after carding a 315.

The Red Flash have a five stroke lead over tournament host Cleveland State heading into Tuesday's final round. Bowling Green State (321), Chicago State (323) and Youngstown State (327) round out the remaining top five schools. Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris (331) and Niagara (343) are also participating and finished day one in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Individually, three of SFU's five golfers sit in the top-10 after the first round. Leading the way for the Flash is freshman Taylar Jaramillo (Belen, N.M./Belen) whose three-over par 76 (38-38) ranks her third in the field of 43. The New Mexico product sits three shots behind the pace set by Ariel Sparrow of Cleveland State. Coming into the clubhouse with a 77 (36-41) on day one is sophomore Mallory Cortis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) who is tied for fourth place.

Defending tournament champion Ann Colligan (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) has a solo hold on seventh after firing a 78 (37-41). Next for Saint Francis is freshman Patricia Klein (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) who sits in a tie for 29th in her first collegiate appearance with an 84 (42-42). The final Flash golfer in the field is Erica DeVal (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) whose 93 (44-49) has her in a two-way tie for the 40th spot.

Tomorrow afternoon Saint Francis looks to bring home its first team title since they captured the program's seventh Northeast Conference championship back in 2007.
