FDU capitalizes on second chance to topple Flash in OT

BOX SCORE HACKENSACK, N.J. (Jan. 12, 2013) – Fairleigh Dickinson outscored Saint Francis 15-5 in overtime to unravel a 64-all tie and come away with a 79-69 Northeast Conference victory at the Rothman Center Saturday.

The Red Flash (1-14; 1-3) led 64-61 with 20 second to play before the Knights' Mustafaa Jones hit a 3-pointer to send the contest to an extra frame.  Jones collected an offensive rebound and worked for the clutch shot after a missed attempt by Lonnie Robinson.

“I'm really proud of the way our guys battled, our effort and our energy,” said SFU coach Rob Krimmel.  “The fine line in basketball at any level is one possession here or there.  It came down to one rebound tonight.”

“Give FDU and [Jones] credit for making that shot.  We gave them an open look at it but you can't give a team two open looks, especially in its own gym.”

SFU led 32-29 at the intermission in a game that featured eight ties and 16 lead changes.

Rookie forward Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) scored a game- and season-high 19 points to pace Saint Francis' three double digit scorers.  Sophomore Stephon Whyatt (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) chipped in 15 to go along with a game-high four assists while classmate Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) earned his fifth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

FDU won the team rebounding battle, 39 to 34.

Four Knights reached double-digit scoring outputs led by Robinson's 17.  Kinu Rochford scored 11 points and grabbed 12 boards for the double-double.

“I'm proud of our guys,” said Krimmel. “We'll get back on the bus, get back to practice on Monday and start to prepare for our next game.”

Saint Francis returns to action on Thursday when it welcomes Quinnipiac to open a four-game home stand.  Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
