SFU Overcomes Slow Start to Knockoff FDU, 68-50

Williams 21 points, 14 rebounds and nine steals

BOX SCORE HACKENSACK, N.J. (Jan. 12, 2013)The Saint Francis University women's basketball team picked up its first Northeast Conference road win, Saturday, knocking off Fairleigh Dickinson, 68-50, in Stratis Arena.
 
The Red Flash (8-6, 3-0) rallied from down as many as 15 points in the first half to knock off the Knights (7-7, 2-1). Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 14 rebounds and missed her second-career triple double by one steal as the junior notch nine in the game. Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) register a season-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting as the Flash cruised in the second half. Danielle Pankey posted 15 points to lead the Knights while Erika Livermore added 13 points and 12 rebounds but it was not enough.
 
The Flash stormed out of the gates in the second half extending their lead to as many as 12 early but FDU continued to battle and got the SFU lead back under 10. The Flash kept their cool and rolled to the win as Gibbs notched 13 of her total in the second half. The Knight's, Livermore was limited to four second half rebounds but Pankey notched 11 second stanza points to keep the Knight in the game. Williams flirted with a quadruple double and missed it by one steal and five assists. 
 
The Knights jumped all over SFU in the first half and jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first half as the Flash struggled from the field and made just two of their first 14 shots. The 15 point advantage for the Knights with 11:56 was shorted lived as SFU rallied and erased the deficient in under 10 minutes and took a 29-28 lead into the locker room. Williams turned the half around and finished the half with seven points, seven rebounds and four steals.
 
The Red Flash returns to action Monday with a noon tipoff at Monmouth.
 
GAME NOTES
- SFU had just one made field goal over the first 8:04 of the game and trailed 17-2 but closed the first half on a 27-11 run to hold a lead at intermission.
 
- The double-double for Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) is her ninth of the season and third in Northeast Conference Play.
 
- The Flash have won four consecutive games against Fairleigh Dickinson
 
- Both teams ended the game with 48 rebounds. It is the third time this season the Flash have tied the rebounding battle.
