Flash drops second straight OT tilt; Brown nabs sixth double-double

BOX SCORE POSTGAME MEDIA CONFERENCE

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 17, 2013)
– Saint Francis U sophomore Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) earned his sixth consecutive double-double Thursday but Quinnipiac was able to hold off the Red Flash in overtime 75-66 in Northeast Conference play.

Brown scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds to lead the Flash.  Freshman Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) added 13 points and eight boards while sophomore Stephon Whyatt (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) tossed in 11 points.

“[Quinnipiac] willed their style in the first half,” said SFU head coach Rob Krimmel, who saw his team drop its second consecutive overtime contest.  “Our guys came out and responded to the challenge in the second half to limit them to one shot [per possession].”

Quinnipiac's Ike Azotam scored a game-high 22 points, Zaid Hearst added 13, and both players grabbed 10 rebounds. Jamee Jackson scored 12 points and Ousmane Drame added 10 to help the Bobcats (6-11, 2-3) snap a three-game losing streak.

"[Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Mosley] are going to be terrific," said Quinnipiac coach Tom Moore.  "I think Rob's doing a great job.  It seems from the outside, he's made a decision to start the program with this core of freshmen and sophomores and they play hard, they play hard."

Trailing 59-53 with 2:20 left in the second half, Saint Francis (1-15, 1-4) closed out the period on a 6-0 run to force overtime.

Quinnipiac dominated the overtime period. The Bobcats outscored the Red Flash 16-7, and allowed just one field goal in the extra five minutes. Hearst scored six points in overtime.

The Bobcats held a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint, and outrebounded the Red Flash 47-40.

“At this point in league play, every game except the Bryant game our guys have played with enough effort and energy to win,” said Krimmel.  “Now its just one or two possessions and executing in spots.  We're going to use this home stand to continue to get better and that's all we talk about is getting better every single day.”

The Red Flash is back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Sacred Heart for a 2 p.m. contest.
