Pioneers comeback to edge Red Flash 75-72

BOX SCORE POSTGAME MEDIA CONFERENCE

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 19, 2013)
– Sacred Heart erased an eight-point first half deficit and led by as many as nine in the second half as it held on to down Saint Francis U 75-72 in Northeast Conference men's basketball action Saturday.

Sacred Heart (6-11, 4-2) took its first lead of the game early in the second half after rallying to tie it at 37 at halftime.  The Red Flash (1-16; 1-5), which out-rebounded SHU 35-to-30, lost its third consecutive close game.

SFU has dropped two NEC games by five points or fewer and two more games in overtime.

“With 12 minutes to go in the first half, we're up by eight,” said Flash coach Rob Krimmel.  “That's the point where we've got to get stops and that eight has got to go to 14 or 15 or 15.  When we get a team down, we've got to keep them down.”

After the Red Flash scored the first four points of the second half, Sacred Heart launched an 11-0 run, with Shane Gibson hitting two 3-pointers and Steve Glowiak a 3-pointer and a layup, to make it 48-41.

Gibson scored 23 points to lead all scorers.  Barely.

Freshman Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) impressed in his first career start by leading Saint Francis with 20 points.  Millaud-Meunier, who is averaging 11 points over his last four games, hit his third 3-pointer with one second left for the final margin.

Sophomore Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) continued his string of outstanding performances with his seventh consecutive double-double.  Brown tossed in 14 points and grabbed 15 boards for the Red Flash.

Rookie Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) also turned in a solid outing with 11 points and four boards.

Saint Francis got within two points twice, including 71-69 with 1:59 left, but the Pioneers answered with four straight free throws.
