SFU Tripped up by Sacred Heart

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 19, 2013) –
The Saint Francis University women's basketball team fell to Sacred Heart, 71-50, on Saturday afternoon in a nationally televised contest in DeGol Arena.
 
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) paced the Red Flash (9-7, 4-1) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, earning her 11th consecutive double-double. Ericka Norman scored 16 points and flirted with a quadruple double to lead a balanced Pioneers (10-7, 2-3) attack that saw five different players score in double figures. Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) racked up 12 points for SFU and connected on a pair of 3-pointers but SFU got just four points from its three other starters.
 
Saint Francis went to the half trailing by 15 and saw its struggles continue in the second half. The Red Flash found themselves down by as many as 25 in the second half. SFU got the SHU lead down to 14 thanks to seven consecutive points from Williams and Lilley but the Flash would get no closer. Sacred Heart racked up a 54.2-shooting percentage in the second half to pick up its second conference win of the season.    
 
Saint Francis struggled in the first half and only connected on eight field goals and posted a 27.6-field goal percentage in the first 20 minutes. Williams was the only starter to record more than two points in the first half. SFU posted a single half season-high 18 turnovers which Sacred Heart turned into 14 points. The strong first half showing by Sacred Heart earned them a 34-19 advantage at intermission.
 
The Red Flash returns to action Monday with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Quinnipiac in DeGol Arena.    
 
GAME NOTES
- The Red Flash posted 18 turnovers in the first half and 19 points.
 
- Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) posted her 11th double-double of the season and her 10th 20-point game of the season.
 
- The 28 turnovers for SFU are the most by the Flash in a home game this season and the 10 assists are just two assists above a season low.  
 
- Three SFU starters did not make a field goal in the game.
 
- Saturday's game was nationally televised on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court.
