BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 24, 2013) – Five Saint Francis players scored in double figures but the Red Flash was unable to fully erase a Robert Morris lead that ballooned to over 20 points in the second half, falling 84-70.
The setback came in front of a crowd of 1,411 at the Stokes Center – the second straight home crowd of over 1,300 and SFU's highest single-game attendance figure since February 12, 2011.
“Give Robert Morris credit,” said Flash coach
Rob Krimmel. “They came out in the first half, executed and made shots when they needed to make shots.”
Robert Morris (13-7, 5-2) led 47-31 at the half on the strength of 18 of 32 shooting from the field, 10 of 21 from beyond the arc. The Colonials opened the second half with a 7-1 run for a 54-32 lead 2:42 in, but the Red Flash eventually closed to 74-64 with 4:57 remaining on
Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy)'s 3-pointer but got no closer.
“[Coming back] is something that we know we can do,” said SFU sophomore
Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park). “We have to do that in the first half. We can't keep waiting until the second half to do certain things.”
“Robert Morris came out hot but it had a lot to do with us not being as aggressive as we needed to be. Our defense has to be more aggressive. We have to be more consistent with our defense.”
Freshman
Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) scored a season-high 22 points, besting his previous mark of 20 set on Saturday against Sacred Heart. The rookie was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc in the game and has now hit at least one 3-pointer in each of his last six outings.
Freshman
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) chipped in 12, Major and
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) 11 and Ervin 10 for the Red Flash (1-17, 1-6).
SFU was without its leading scorer,
Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City), and its no. three scorer
Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep). Shannon is day-to-day with a leg injury while Mosley – who is also the second-leading rebounder for the Flash – is recovering from a concussion.
Karvel Anderson scored 22 points and Lucky Jones had 16 points and nine rebounds as the Colonials won their fifth consecutive game. RMU shot 13 of 27 on 3-pointers and its bench outscored Saint Francis 27-12.
