READING, Pa. (Jan. 25, 2013) - Showing little rust coming off its nearly two month long hiatus from the lanes, the No. 11 Saint Francis U bowling team compiled a 4-2 record in six baker quad matches on day one of the KU Invitational.
The Red Flash were one of many of the 28 teams in attendance to go 4-2 on Friday but ranked seventh overall in terms of total pinfall. SFU collected a total pinfall of 4,635 for the round of six baker quad matches.
Saint Francis began its day with an 802-785 setback against No. 9 Wisconsin Whitewater but followed that up with a tightly contested victory over Delaware State, 732-730. SFU followed that up with another win, this time coming against No. 13 Stephen F. Austin, 805-770.
In match number four the Red Flash suffered defeat at the hands of No. 14 Norfolk State, 864-713, but closed out its opening day with back-to-back wins. In the fifth match of Friday's competition, SFU overtook No. 19 Bethune Cookman, 749-720 and saved its biggest performance of the day for last. Saint Francis downed No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt with its highest pinfall of the day, 831-725.
No. 2 Maryland Eastern Shore leads all teams in the competition with a pinfall of 4,940 and a perfect 6-0 record.
