Bowling continues solid play at Kutztown Invitational

READING, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2013) - Saturday's traditional format at the Kutztown Invitational yielded similar results for the Saint Francis U bowling team as they went 4-2 overall on day two.

"Today we went at it with a great positive mind-set. The ladies were aggressive all day and were there to win," head coach Tom Falbo said. "We actually rose to the fourth spot for much of the day, but our last two matches were on challenging pairs, which is not an excuse. It's a great opportunity to use that experience and work on those situations to become better. Our Sunday goal is in front of us and our intensity will be set on high."

Along with the team's 4-2 record from Friday's baker play, the Red Flash head into the final day of competition with an 8-4 record and sit sixth overall in total pinfall. Through two days of action on the lanes, SFU has compiled a total pinfall of 10,399 to put them sixth among the 28 teams competing. No. 2 ranked Maryland Eastern Shore continued its dominance of the tournament, raising its weekend record to 12-0 with a 10,873 total pinfall.

Saint Francis got the ball rolling early Saturday with a 996-819 victory over Howard but suffered a setback to Florida A&M 1,005-989 in match two, to begin its day 1-1. The Red Flash racked off three consecutive wins from there by downing Morgan State 947-853, North Carolina Central 1,011-981 and Coppin State 925-745. No. 15 Valparaiso handed SFU its second loss of the day 936-896 to close out Saturday's action.

Saturday's traditional round featured individual play and the Flash got another solid performance from last year's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata). Leid threw four of six games in the 200 range, including a 243 game in a win over North Carolina Central. Leid's 1,237 total individual pinfall ranked her eighth among all individual competitors.

The big game of the day for the Red Flash however came from freshman Ashley Howe who rolled a 270 in her second match of the day against Florida A&M.

Saint Francis concludes the three-day Kutztown Invitational on Sunday with a championship bracket style format.
