Brown's career night not enough as LIU trips up Red Flash

BOX SCORE BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jan. 31, 2013) – Sophomore Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored a career-high 22 points but it wasn't enough to top streaking LIU Brooklyn as the Blackbirds prevailed 82-62 Thursday night.  The Northeast Conference win was LIU's sixth straight.

Booker Hucks matched his career high with 20 points off the bench for LIU, including a career-high five 3-pointers. The senior is 9-of-13 shooting from deep over his past two games and has made 45.5 percent (15 of 33) from deep in 10.8 minutes per game this season for the Blackbirds (11-10, 6-3).

LIU Brooklyn – which saw four players score 14 points or more – also won the rebound battle 34-29.

After the Blackbirds scored the first 13 points of the game, the Red Flash (1-19, 1-8) outscored LIU 26-23 in the opening period to go into the intermission down 10.  Saint Francis was able to trim its deficit to as few as six points in the second half before LIU responded to put the game away.

Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) scored 14 points for the Red Flash including two of the team's 3-pointers.  SFU was a frigid 3-of-19 from beyond the arc on the evening.

On the bright side for SFU, junior Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) and freshman Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) were back in action on Thursday.  Shannon started the game scoring five points and Mosley tied for the team lead with five rebounds.
