BOX SCORE EMMITSBURG, Md. (Oct. 25, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's soccer team avenged its first Northeast Conference loss of the season with a resounding 5-0 victory at Mount St. Mary's Friday afternoon.
Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) scored twice and dished out two assists for Saint Francis (9-7-1, 5-1-0 NEC), while
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) racked up one goal and two assists on the day.
The Red Flash opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Maros de Carvalho took the ball to the endline and found
Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), who fired a shot past a diving Rachel Bourne. The Mount defense withstood Saint Francis' pressure for most of the first half with Bourne picking up six saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Early in the second half the Red Flash worked the ball down the field and found the back of the net on Maros de Carvalho's through ball that was finished by McKibben for a 2-0 lead.
Saint Francis broke through the Mount defense with three goals in the final 5:54 of the game to put the Mountaineers away, 5-0.
McKibben's shot was redirected into the goal by
Julia Gembry (Barnegat, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) in the 85th minute for a 3-0 lead before McKibben dribbled to the endline and crossed the ball under goalkeeper Vicky Cocozza to the foot of Maros de Carvalho, who finished for a 4-0 advantage.
Saint Francis capped the scoring on Maros de Carvalho's second goal of the game on a cross from
Brittany Hasson (Leola, Pa./Warwick) with 48 seconds left in the game.
Saint Francis outshot the Mountaineers 24-7 on the day, Cocozza made three second-half saves, while rookie
Abbey Collins (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) stopped two shots for the Red Flash.
