Saint Francis makes its second NCAA Division I Women's College Cup appearance Friday and will face the top team in the nation – the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Red Flash earned its berth in the tournament after defeating LIU Brooklyn in the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship, while UVA saw its 20-match win streak snapped in the ACC tournament by eventual league runner-up Virginia Tech, 4-2.
Several of the NCAA's most accomplished offensive performers will take part in the contest, including two of the nation's 10 student-athletes with double-digit goals and assist totals. SFU senior
Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) – the country's active leading scorer – has racked up 20 goals and 14 assists, while Cavaliers junior Morgan Brian has 12 goals and 14 assists on the campaign.
Both squads also feature two players with over 10 assists. For Saint Francis, its McKibben (14) and
Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (10). Brian (14) and Danielle Colparcio (10) of Virginia have equaled their SFU counterparts.
