Red Flash Down Knights On Senior Day

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. – (Nov. 16, 2013) The Saint Francis women's volleyball team claimed a Senior Day victory over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, tying together a two-game winning streak. The Flash earned its fifth conference win Saturday afternoon in the confines of DeGol Areana.

Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) led the Frankies with 14 kills each. Sophie Murdock (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion ) also recorded double digits in kills with 11 on the evening. Four SFU players posted double-digit performances in digs on Senior Day, Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) leading the way with 21 digs and five assists. Senior Brittany Stambaugh (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) marked three digs, while Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) tallied 46 assists.

Senior Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) had a 10 digs and three kills in the contest.

In the first set both teams battled back-and-forth as the Red and White pulled away several times, but the Knights answered every Red Flash threat. Finally Saint Francis opened up a, 20-15, advantage eventually ousting FDU, 25-20.

Saint Francis quickly grabbed a, 7-1, lead in the second set, but the Knights slowly crept back into the set tying Saint Francis at 18. Once again SFU proved to be too much for FDU to handle winning the set on a 7-4 rally.

The Knights claimed the third set, 25-20, chipping Saint Francis's lead to 2-1, while forcing a fourth set.

The Red and White obtained an early lead in the forth set, 6-4, and never surrendered the advantage winning the final set, 25-17.

The Red Flash return to action Sunday concluding its season against the Sacred Heart Pioneers at 1 p.m. in the DeGol Arena.
