Hot-shooting Colgate turns back Red Flash

BOX SCORE HAMILTON, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2013) – Colgate shot 75 percent from 3-point range in the second half – and 57 percent for the game – in an 81-64 win over Saint Francis U at Cotterell Court Saturday.

The Raiders (2-2) got 24 points out of senior Murphy Bernatowski, who was 8-for-17 from the field and 6-for-11 from the 3-point arc.  Five Colgate players scored in double figures.

The Red Flash shot 41 percent (13-of-30) from the field and hit 11 3-pointers on the afternoon, but was stymied by 13 turnovers which the Raiders converted in to 17 points.

Saint Francis, which wrapped up its longest road swing of the season, played Colgate evenly in the first half as the period's five ties and seven lead changes would suggest.  En route to a 34-28 halftime advantage, the Raiders began to pull away late in the first half.

Colgate opened the second half with a 15-2 run to extend its lead to 54-35. Saint Francis (1-5) cut the deficit to 62-55 with 5:33 to play but the Raiders scored the game's next 10 points en route to their 17-point victory. It was Colgate's second straight win after losing its first two games to Wake Forest and Syracuse.

After a quiet start, sophomore Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) found his stroke in the game racking up a team-high 17 points.  The guard hit on four of his seven attempts from long range and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Three additional SFU players – Stephon Mosley (Harlem, N.Y./Seton Hall Prep) (12), Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) (11) and Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) (10) – scored in double figures.

Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) pulled down a game-high 11 boards, but the Raiders edged Saint Francis on the glass 31-30.
