LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 7, 2013) - The Saint Francis University women's basketball team will kick off its 46th varsity campaign as it travels to Penn State on Friday for a 7 p.m. match-up. The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series between the two schools, 5-1, but the Red Flash won the last meeting in 2006, 74-69. This is the first game of the 2013 season for both SFU and PSU.

- Saint Francis brings back two starters in
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and
Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk).
- SFU brings in seven newcomers in 2013-14, six of them freshman and
Corissa Archer (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge), a transfer from Broward College.
- The Flash went 17-16 under first-year head coach
Joe Haigh in 2012-13.
- SFU earned a trip to the Women's Basketball Invitational last season after making its 15th NEC Title game appearance in the past 20 seasons. The mark ranks third in the nation.
- Saint Francis U was picked to finish fourth in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Flash received one first-place vote.
WILLIAMS LOOKS TO BUILD OFF IMPRESSIVE JUNIOR SEASON
Saint Francis brings back
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) for her senior season, the Altoona, Pa. native had a season to remember in 2013 racking up All-NEC first team honors and CoSida Capital One Academic All-America honors. Williams led the team in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (10.7 rpg) and steals (119) which was an SFU record. Williams was also a unanimous selection to the Northeast Conference Preseason All-Conference team.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
- The Nittany Lions were the 2012-13 Big Ten regular season champions after a 26-6 overall record, including a 14-2 mark.
- PSU also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after beating Cal Poly in the first round, 85-55. The Nittany Lions lost 71-66 against LSU in the second round.
- PSU brings back its top scorer from last season Maggie Lucas, the guard averaged 20.1 points per game in 2012-13.
- The Nittany Lions beat Lock Haven in an exhibition match, 102-51.
- Penn State was picked 15th in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, one of four Big Ten schools on the list.
