BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 17, 2013) – Saint Francis U junior
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) poured in 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double and
Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) chipped in 18 points, but it was all for naught as Duquesne came from behind for a 78-71 win on Tuesday.
The Red Flash – which tallied its second-highest point total of the season – led by as many as 13 points in the first half thanks to some hot shooting, but Duquesne made key plays down the stretch for the win.
"Our guys battled, but give Duquesne credit," said SFU coach
Rob Krimmel. "When they needed to make plays in the second half I thought they willed their style on us."
Ovie Soko scored 23 points to key the Duquesne (4-5) comeback. Soko scored 15 of the Dukes' 51 second-half points as they erased a 37-27 halftime deficit.
Saint Francis (2-8) used a 16-4 run – including three treys by Millaud-Meunier – to build its edge at the intermission.
Duquesne finally took a 45-44 lead at 13:18 of the second half on Desmond Ridenour's layup. The Dukes' lead reached as many as 10 points but Saint Francis re-took the lead at 63-61 at 6:23 on a
Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) 3-pointer.
Derrick Colter returned the favor with a trey of his own on the next possession for Duquesne and the teams battled down the stretch until a late 8-0 run led to a 4-point led for the Dukes with 2:02 left. A final few free throws provided the margin of victory.
Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday when it visits Drexel for a 2 p.m. contest.
