Drexel holds off determined Red Flash

BOX SCORE PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 22, 2013) – With the effort Saint Francis has shown in its four games since a lackluster home defeat to American on November 30, it's hard to imagine games not starting to fall the Red Flash's way.

Just not yet.

Chris Fouch scored 15 points to help Drexel (8-3) hold off Saint Francis, 59-49 in a battle of Pennsylvania rivals Sunday.

The Red Flash (2-9) trailed by just two points at halftime and cut the Drexel lead to two twice early in the second half, but the Dragons pulled away down the stretch.

The loss was the sixth of the season for SFU during which the outcome was in question within five minutes of the closing buzzer.  In the latest installment, the Flash closed the gap to six points (55-49) with 1:08 to play but couldn't finish.

"We knew we were going to have to play with some toughness and some intensity," said Frankies' coach Rob Krimmel.  "We did some nice things defensively and we got our shots, we just didn't knock them down."

"Give credit to Drexel – that's a good basketball team.  They beat Alabama and they took (no. 1) Arizona down to the wire.  They play a lot of big-time teams and play them well."

Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) led Saint Francis with 16 points off the bench.  Major and sophomore Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) combined for all six of SFU's 3-pointers, each connecting on three.

Playing in front of his hometown crowd, Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) chipped in nine points and was Saint Francis' top rebounder with seven.

Stephon Whyatt (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) each dished out a team-high five assists.  The Red Flash posted 12 assists on the game while committing only six turnovers.

Franz Massenat added 13 points for Drexel (8-3) and Kazembe Abif added 11 rebounds and nine points as Drexel bounced back after having a four-game win streak snapped Wednesday at Saint Joseph's.
