Game #24 Preview: Saint Francis Takes on First Place Quinnipiac

LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2013) - The Saint Francis University women's basketball team will travel to Quinnipiac to face the Bobcats who are undefeated in Northeast Conference play.

SETTING THE STAGE
 
Saint Francis looks to rebound after a loss against Robert Morris on Monday night. The Red Flash have a tall task at hand as they will take on the first place Quinnipiac Bobcats. Quinnipiac is an undefeated 11-0 in league play, including a 63-53 win over Central Connecticut State Wednesday night. The Bobcats and Red Flash are ranked first and second in scoring offense with 72.6 and 64.2 points per game, respectively. The Bobcats also lead the league in field goal percentage (.407) and three-point percentage (.363). Quinnipiac took down Saint Francis 85-69 on Jan. 21 inside DeGol Arena. Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) dropped 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Felicia Barron scored 28 points and Jasmine Martin poured in 21 points for Quinnipiac.
 
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) ranks second in the Northeast Conference in scoring, fourth in rebounding and second in steals. Williams stands as one of just four players in the NEC averaging a double-double per game. Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) has come on strong lately, starting with her career-high 28 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 28. Hayward scored a team-high 11 points in the loss to LIU Brooklyn. The sophomore guard has hit 11 triples over the last five contests. Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) is second on the team in rebounding at 6.7 caroms per contest, Fleming scored seven points and grabbed 11 boards against Robert Morris.
 
Quinnipiac has not lost since Dec. 29 when they faced Georgia Tech. Since conference play began, the Bobcats average margin of victory is 16.5. Felicia Barron leads the team in scoring with 15 points per game. Brittany McQuain leads the team in rebounding, the junior is averaging eight boards a contest. Gillian Abshire ranks second in the conference with five assist per game.
 
LAST TIME OUT

Saint Francis squared off against Keystone State rival Robert Morris on Monday evening. The Flash lost the second meeting of the season against the Colonials, 67-53, in Moon Township, Pa. Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) posted her 17th double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Red Flash. SFU was held without a field goal for six minutes in the first half until Kelley Doogan (Claymont, Del./Ursuline Academy) made a reverse lay-up. The offensive struggles continued for the Flash in the first stanza, shooting 27% and scoring only 20 points before the break, tied for the second least this season. Saint Francis posted 19 offensive rebounds in the game, highlighted by five from Williams and three from Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne).
 
WILLIAMS EARNING TOP ACCOLADES
 
•     Junior forward Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has earned Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors three times in 2012-13 (Nov. 19, Dec. 31, Jan. 29).
 
•     The Altoona Pa. native has also been recognized four times by College Sports Madness this season, she earned the CSM Mid-Major Player of the Week on Nov. 20. Williams was named CSM's NEC Player of the Week three times (Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Feb. 4).
 
•     Williams was named to the Capital One® Academic All-District II first team for the second consecutive season. She will now be considered for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this month.
 
FOR THE RECORD
 
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has cracked several key career statistical plateaus this season including recording her 1,000th point and 600th rebound. Williams also hit the 200-career steal mark. The junior now ranks as just the third player in school history to total 1,000-points, 600-rebounds and 200 steals in her career joining Beth Swink and Jess Zinobile. Williams currently ranks 13th all-time at SFU in scoring (1,227), 8th in rebounding (730) and 4th in steals (216). Williams is not the only current SFU student-athlete in the 1,000-point club, as Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) sits 19th on the all-time scoring list with 1,084 points.
 
NUMBERS TO KNOW
 
.269 – SFU still leads the NEC in three point defense only allowing opponents to shoot .269 (101-375) from beyond the arc.  
 
4 – SFU is 4-0 when the team hits 10 or more three-pointers.
 
7 - Rebecca Sparks (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) posted a career-high seven assists against Robert Morris on Monday.
