BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 16, 2013) - Following day two the Saint Francis U bowling team sits seventh out of 25 teams at the James Brown Invitational heading into Sunday's championship bracket round of action.
Saint Francis showed consistency in its five matches, with scores over 900 in all five of its matches. The Red Flash won in their matches against Fayetteville State, Cheyney and Elmhurst, and lost hard fought matches against two top-five teams in Arkansas State (No. 4 in the nation) and Nebraska (No. 3 in the nation). SFU is 7-3 against top-10 teams since the winter break, and 2-2 against top ten teams in the Midwest Region.
Shelby Derr (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and
Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) paced the Red Flash, averaging 212.6 & 202.4, respectively.
Sarah Ross (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) entered play in game four and averaged 203.5 for two games.
"We saw Shelby and Christina get comfortable playing a great strike line and they repeated good shots all day," head coach
Tom Falbo said. "Sarah had another good outing. As a team we struggled with pin carry in key scoring opportunities, and tomorrow we work hard to improve in that area."
