Game #25 Preview: Saint Francis Looks to End Skid at Sacred Heart

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • Gabriell Washington ranks fourth in the NEC in scoring with 16 points per game. The sophomore is also a 94 percent free throw shooter and averages three attempts from the charity stripe each game.
  • Ericka Norman leads the assists category in the conference, the junior guard averages 7.2 helpers per game. The next closest competitor is Gillian Abshire from Quinnipiac at 4.86 assists per game.
  • Senior forward Morgan Merriman leads the Pioneers in rebounding with 5.8 boards per game.
 
PREVIOUS MEETING ON JAN. 19
  • In the last meeting between the two schools, Sacred Heart won 71-50 in a nationally televised game in Loretto.
  • Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) posted a 20 point 12 rebound effort for SFU in the loss.
  • Four of SHU's five starters registered double-digit points, including 16 from both Ericka Norman and Kiley Evans.
 
LAST TIME OUT

Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) posted her 18th double-double of the season, but Saint Francis could not keep the Northeast Conference's first place team from making a second half comeback. Quinnipiac won the matinée game, 61-50, to stay undefeated in NEC play on Saturday afternoon. Saint Francis led at 10:50 in the first half on until a shot clock violation led to a lay-up from Brittany McQuain to give the Bobcats a 33-31 lead with 15:24 to play in half two. Both teams traded leads until Quinnipiac took a nine point lead with under six minutes to play. The Flash forced 21 turnovers in the contest, the Bobcats highest total in league play. 10 different Saint Francis players recorded points in the game. Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) added seven points apiece. SFU held Quinnipac to 24 points, its lowest first-half total since conference play began as the Bobcats only connected on 28 percent of their shots. The NEC's top three-point defense also forced a 0-10 Quinnipiac effort from the beyond the arc in the first frame.
 
 
WILLIAMS EARNING TOP ACCOLADES
 
  • Junior forward Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has earned Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors three times in 2012-13 (Nov. 19, Dec. 31, Jan. 29).
  • The Altoona Pa. native has also been recognized four times by College Sports Madness this season, she earned the CSM Mid-Major Player of the Week on Nov. 20. Williams was named CSM's NEC Player of the Week three times (Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Feb. 4).
  • Williams was named to the Capital One® Academic All-District II first team for the second consecutive season. She will now be considered for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this month.
 
FOR THE RECORD
 
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has cracked several key career statistical plateaus this season including recording her 1,000th point and 600th rebound. Williams also hit the 200-career steal mark. The junior now ranks as just the third player in school history to total 1,000-points, 600-rebounds and 200 steals in her career joining Beth Swink and Jess Zinobile. Williams currently ranks 13th all-time at SFU in scoring (1,243), 8th in rebounding (746) and 4th in steals (221). Williams is not the only current SFU student-athlete in the 1,000-point club, as Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) sits 19th on the all-time scoring list with 1,084 points.
 
NUMBERS TO KNOW
 
2 – SFU, the NEC's top three-point defense held Quinnipiac to just 2-17 from beyond the arc on Saturday. 
 
4 – SFU has now used four different starting lineup combinations after using the same one for the first 18 games.
 
18 – Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has posted 18 double-double efforts so far in the 2012-13 campaign.
