Millaud-Meunier, Ervin lead Red Flash past Knights

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Freshman Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) came off the bench to score 26 points and senior Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead Saint Francis U to a 69-64 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson at DeGol Arena on Thursday night.

Millaud-Meunier was 8 of 13 from the field including an impressive 7 of 9 (78%) from beyond the 3-point arc.  His seven 3s tie for the fifth-most in SFU history and are the most in a game for a Red Flash player since Rahsaan Benton fired eight in January of 2005.

“Our bench was huge tonight, especially the guys that came off and gave us some big time minutes when we needed them,” said SFU head coach Rob Krimmel, who watch his reserves account for 36 points. “Ben made some shots and with his confidence level and the way he shoots the ball that rubs off on our guys and that's what he does well.”

In his best outing of the season, Ervin was 8 of 10 from the floor for the Red Flash (4-22, 4-11 Northeast Conference).

“Anthony really had a great game tonight with 22 points and nine rebounds,” Krimmel said. “He's had to battle with some things throughout this season but he's really bounced back and has come on strong in 2013.”

As a team, Saint Francis shot 10 of 19 on 3-pointers and also dished out a season-best 18 assists.

“Spacing and ball movement is something we emphasized this week in practice,” Krimmel said. “Coach Clark did a great job with our guys on that and if you look at the stats, 18 assists on 23 field goals, that's sharing the basketball, that's team basketball.”

Kinu Rochford scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Fairleigh Dickinson (7-21, 2-13), which beat Saint Francis 79-69 in overtime at Hackensack, N.J., on Jan. 12 but has lost 12 straight since.

Trailing 16-8 at the 10:27 mark, SFU went on a 13-0 run to lead 21-16 with 6:20 left, capped by Ervin's four-point play. The Red Flash led 31-25 at halftime.

Fairleigh Dickinson grabbed a 35-33 advantage early in the second half, but Saint Francis put together a 12-0 surge and held on for the victory.

The Flash hosts Monmouth in its home finale on Saturday.  Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
