BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 23, 2013) –
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) flirted with a triple-double as the Saint Francis U women's basketball team routed Monmouth, 69-56, on senior day at DeGol Arena.
Williams finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals to lead the Red Flash (14-12, 9-6). The SFU defense forced a season-high 30 turnovers in the game. Alysha Womack scored 21 points to lead the Hawks (12-14, 9-6).
"Overall it was a very good effort," SFU head coach
Joe Haigh said about the victory on senior day. "I think it was a great team win tonight, especially with our defense."
Saint Francis came out of the gates firing and jumped out to a commanding 17-8 lead after a jumper from
Rebecca Keegan (Jessup, Pa./Valley View). The Hawks battled back to within three after a 6-0 run with 4:32 to play in the first half. SFU closed out the frame on a 9-0 run and took a 30-18 lead into the locker room.
SFU surrendered two baskets to start the second half before
Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) knocked down a three-pointer. Hayward then stole the inbound pass and got fouled on a lay-up attempt then hit both free throws.
The Flash continued to roll, until Monmouth battled back again and closed the margin to single digits with 7:06 to play. Saint Francis kept the foot on the gas pedal and extended the lead to 13 with under a minute to play.
Keegan scored 13 points to set a new career-high to go along with six rebounds. 11 different Red Flash players recorded points in the game.
Saint Francis will host the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on Monday night for the regular season home finale at 7 p.m.
