Red Flash falls at Bryant in season finale

BOX SCORE SMITHFIELD, R.I. (March 2, 2013) – The Saint Francis University men's basketball team closed out its 107th varsity basketball season Saturday with an 85-60 setback at Bryant.

With the win, the Bulldogs guaranteed themselves a home game in the upcoming Northeast Conference tournament, while the Red Flash ends its year with a 5-24 (5-13) record.

“Going into the game, we knew this was an experienced, talented team and that we couldn't beat ourselves,” said SFU coach Rob Krimmel  “I thought we made a couple of key mistakes and they made us pay for it and a five-point lead went to an 11-point lead.”

“A team like that can ride that momentum and Bryant certainly did in the second half.”

Alex Francis scored 19 points and posted his third consecutive double-double as Bryant, which finished 2-28 last season, wrapped up the regular season 19-10, 12-6.  The Bulldogs, who led 41-30 at halftime, got double-figure scoring from five players.

Sophomore Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) led the Red Flash with 14 points and freshman Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) added 10.

“We made some good plays in stretches,” Krimmel said, “but we needed to be more consistent on both ends to compete with these guys today.”

The Red Flash ended the season winning three of its last six game, matching its strongest finish in six seasons.
