Final Championship Bracket
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (March 24, 2013) – On championship Sunday at the 2013 Northeast Conference bowling tournament, the Saint Francis U bowling team took down Kutztown 4-2 in the morning semifinals but fell 4-0 to Adelphi in the finals.
"Our team prevailed against a tough opponent in Kutztown in the semi-final match," head coach
Tom Falbo said. "We finished strong and felt momentum heading into the championship match. Adelphi bowled well against us, I congratulate their performance. However make no mistake, this Red Flash team has a lot to be proud of and the future is bright."
The Red Flash squared off against No. 2 seeded Kutztown in the first match of the day, an elimination semifinal match. After two games the match remained tied 1-1 but Saint Francis rolled together two consecutive wins to take charge of a 3-1 lead. The Golden Bears mounted a rally, taking the win in game five but SFU closed the door in game six to lock up a spot in the championship.
Sixth-seeded Adelphi, who went 3-0 on Saturday to earn its bid to the championship, never missed a beat in the final match of the day. The Panthers put together four game victories in a row to defeat the Flash and snag its first NEC Championship.
Saint Francis will await its fate on Wednesday and see if they are selected to participate in the NCAA tournament.
