Saint Francis Hosts CCSU for NEC Quarterfinals

LORETTO, Pa. (March 9, 2013) -
The Saint Francis University women's basketball team will host Central Connecticut State for a Northeast Conference Quarterfinal match-up.

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Saint Francis and Central Connecticut will face-off in a unique match-up, they just met on Monday in the regular season finale. The Northeast Conference Quarterfinal match-up brings the #5 Blue Devils to Loretto to face the #4 Red Flash after CCSU took down SFU 76-71 in Connecticut. 
  • Saint Francis is 39-7 all-time in NEC postseason play, including a staggering 23-1 all-time record inside DeGol Arena in the postseason. The lone defeat coming against Wagner, 61-51, on March 10, 1992. SFU is also 2-0 against CCSU in league postseason play.
  • Saint Francis hit a Northeast Conference record 17 three-pointers in the win over Fairleigh Dickinson on 2/25.
  • CCSU enters the match-up winning four out of its five last games, Jaclyn Babe led the Blue Devils in the win over SFU with 29 points.
  • The Blue Devils hold opponents to an average of just 60.2 points per game. CCSU also averages 42.7 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the NEC.

FLASH FACTS
  • Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) ranks second in the Northeast Conference in scoring, fourth in rebounding and second in steals. Williams stands as one of just four players in the NEC averaging a double-double per game. The junior has notched 21 double-doubles this season.
  • Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) is second on the team in rebounding at 6.4 boards per contest, the junior is also fifth in the conference in field goal percentage.
  • Kelley Doogan (Claymont, Del./Ursuline Academy) has become one of SFU's best players of the bench. The senior poured in a career-high 35 points against Fairleigh Dickinson. Doogan tied the all-time SFU record for three-pointers in a game with eight.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
  • The Babe Sisters lead the Blue Devils in scoring and rebounding. Jaclyn Babe averages 16 points per game, which ranks fourth in the NEC. Jessica Babe leads the team in rebounding with 7.2 rebounds per game, which ranks sixth in the league.
  • Both of the Babe sisters rank in the top 15 in assists within the NEC. Jessica ranks 7th with 3.72 per game, while Jaclyn sits in 13th with 2.86 per game.

WILLIAMS NAMED ALL-NEC FIRST TEAM
 
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) was named to the Northeast Conference first team on Thursday, March 7. Williams finished the regular season averaging 17.4 points per game, which ranks second in the league behind the NEC Player of the Year, Artemis Spanou. The junior also finished the regular season averaging 10.8 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. Williams is one of only four players in the conference to end the regular season averaging a double-double.

SECOND MEETING ON MARCH 2
  • In the last meeting between the two schools, CCSU won 76-71 in New Britain, Conn.  
  • Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) scored a team-high 17 points and had 10 rebounds. 
  • Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) added 16 points while Rebecca Sparks (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) posted a career-high 11 points. 
  • Jaclyn Babe dropped 29 points for the Blue Devils. Kaley Watras added 21 points off the bench for CCSU.   
  • Both teams shot over 41% from the field, CCSU won the rebounding battle 38-31.

FIRST MEETING ON JAN. 7
  • In the first meeting between the two schools this season, SFU won 67-62 in Sweet Loretto.  
  • Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) scored a team-high 20 points and had 13 rebounds. 
  • Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Shene Fleming (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) each added 13 points.
  • Jaclyn Babe dropped 25 points for the Blue Devils. Jessica Babe had seven points, six rebounds and eight assists.  
  • SFU outscored CCSU 42-28 in the first half of play en route to the win.

WILLIAMS NAMED CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA®

Williams was honored Thursday by being named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Women's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Williams garnered second team laurels with a 3.89 grade-point average (GPA) in Occupational Therapy. Williams is the 37th student-athlete at SFU to be honored by CoSIDA as Academic All-America, most among all Northeast Conference institutions. Williams is also only the second SFU women's basketball player to earn All-America honors, Beth Swink was honored in 2003-04 and 2004-05.

FOR THE RECORD

Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has cracked several key career statistical plateaus this season including recording her 1,000th point and 600th rebound. Williams also hit the 200-career steal mark. The junior now ranks as just the third player in school history to total 1,000-points, 600-rebounds and 200 steals in her career joining Beth Swink and Jess Zinobile. Williams currently ranks 11th all-time at SFU in scoring (1,304), 7th in rebounding (787) and 4th in steals (244). Williams is not the only current SFU student-athlete in the 1,000-point club, as Brittany Lilley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) sits 19th on the all-time scoring list with 1,084 points.
