NIAGARA, N.Y. (April 9, 2013) – Needing a playoff to determine an individual champion at the Purple Eagles Invitational on Tuesday,
Ann Colligan (Kittanning, Pa./Kittanning) of the Saint Francis U women's golf team came out on top to claim the third individual win of her career.
Colligan shot a three-over par 75 in the second round to tie with Sarah Heimlich of Youngstown State after two rounds of competition. Each golfer totaled a 153 for the two days of action. In the playoff however it was Colligan who came out on top for the win. This marks the first spring tournament win for Colligan in her three seasons at SFU.
As a team the Red Flash finished in third place among the five competing teams. Saint Francis compiled a 330 for round two, besting their Monday total by one stroke and giving them a 661 for the tournament. The team finished above Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris and tournament host Niagara in the standings. Detroit Mercy took home the team title with a total score of 630 (321-309). All of Detroit Mercy's individuals recorded top-10 finishes.
As for the rest of the SFU golfers in the field of 38,
Skylar Hay (Easton, Pa./Freedom) (84-84) and
Taylar Jaramillo (Belen, N.M./Belen) (81-87) both finished in a tie for 15
th place after carding a two-day score of 168.
Erica DeVal (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) did not finish far behind her teammates, placing in a tie for the 18
th spot with a 172 (88-84). Entered into the tournament as an individual,
Patricia Klein (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) notched sole possession of 22
nd after she shot a 173 (89-84). Sophomore
Mallory Cortis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) 89-88-177) rounded out the list of Flash golfers in the event with a tie for 25
th.
Saint Francis will compete in its final regular season tournament April 15-16 at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational in Emmitsburg, Md.
