BOX SCORE WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 30, 2013) – In the opening match of the 2013 DC Invitational Saint Francis U was able to will its style on Virginia Commonwealth but couldn't post a result, falling to the Rams 2-1.
VCU's Taryn Cressy drew first blood in the match by converting on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Jessie Krasko gave the Rams – who were picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10 – a 2-0 lead just over a minute later.

As a team, the Red Flash out-shot VCU 11 to 1 in a scoreless first half and maintained a 21 to 11 advantage on the afternoon. SFU also doubled up the Rams in shots on goal (8-4), held a 3 to 2 advantage in corner kicks and was stymied by three offsides calls.
Saint Francis plays George Washington on Sunday.
