BOX SCORE HACKENSACK, N.J. – (Sept. 29, 2013) The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team earned their first regular season win in a five-set brawl over Northeast Conference rival Fairleigh Dickinson, Sunday afternoon.
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) and
Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) lead the Red Flash (1-14; 1-1) to victory with 14 kills apiece.
Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) finished the day with 11 kills. Four Frankies had double digits in digs;
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) led Saint Francis with a team-high 31.
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) statted 45 assists for SFU.
Saint Francis opened up an early 3-0 lead over the Knights and never looked back winning the first set (25-20) off an FDU service error. Fairleigh Dickinson controlled the second set winning 25-20. The third set featured four ties and one lead change as Saint Francis regained a 2-1 lead over the Knights. Fairleigh Dickinson forced a fifth set after rallying to beat the Red and White 25-22. The fifth set mirrored the first set for Saint Francis as they opened up an early 5-1 advantage, downing the Knights 15-10, claiming their first win of the season.
The Red Flash marked a .114 attacking percentage in the victory allotting 55 kills and 80 digs.
Saint Francis returns home for NEC action against LIU Brooklyn on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
