Flash settles for tie after late LIU Brooklyn goal

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2014) – The Saint Francis U and LIU Brooklyn women's soccer teams settled for a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play at a frigid Stokes Soccerplex Sunday, but in terms of scoring the game could've been condensed into two minutes.

The Red Flash imposed their will on the Blackbirds for much of the first half, however it was rookie Allison LaDuke (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe)'s goal 1:14 in that put momentum firmly in SFU's corner.  The goal – LaDuke's third of the season – was assisted by fellow first-year Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) and held up for exactly 88 minutes.

The second half was every bit equal-but-opposite the first.

Now with a 14-mph wind to their backs, the Blackbirds' "open fire" offense clicked on all cylinders. LIU futilely racked up 11 shots on goal in the frame until, with 46 seconds to go in regulation, Jen Spicer finally cracked the Red Flash backline.

Spicer led both teams with eight shots on the afternoon, while Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) fired three to pace Saint Francis.

Freshman SFU keeper Lexie Mirenda (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) turned in a serviceable 12 save effort in the complete-game effort.

The Red Flash will remain at home to welcome Mount St. Mary's on Friday (3 p.m.) in its 2014 home finale.
