BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2014) – A season's worth of offensive frustration gave way to a four-goal second half Friday as the Saint Francis U women's soccer team turned back Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, on Senior Day at the Stokes Soccerplex.
Â
After outshooting the Mountaineers 14-to-8 in a scoreless opening half, the Red Flash finally broke the tie in the 56th minute.
Â
Midfield
Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) controlled a ball from
Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) along the left side of the box before making an evasive lateral move and firing for her second goal of the season.
Â
Morales, once again, dished out the helper as senior captain
Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) took over the team lead with her fourth goal of the season in the in the 62nd minute. However, Walter's sole possession of the mark would last all but five minutes.
Â
Rookie
Allison LaDuke (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) picked up her fourth marker of the year after heading a wild volley from
Kelly Beegle (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) into the right side of the net.
Â
Morales capped the scoring in the 73rd minute by firing into the far corner on a ball from Bross. Bross and Morales finished with three and four points, respectively.
Â
While the Frankies' shot total ballooned to 25 in the game, the SFU back line hunkered down to allow only eight Mountaineer shots – and just one in the second half.
Â
Playing for the first time in nearly a month, Flash keeper
Romina Kunze (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl-von-Weinberg-Schule) made five stops in recording her first shutout of the season.
Â
The Flash hit the road Sunday for a 1 p.m. game at Robert Morris.
