Women’s Hoops Opens Season at Ohio State

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2014) - The Saint Francis University women's basketball team tips-off its 47th varsity campaign tomorrow at Ohio State.

After making consecutive trips to the Northeast Conference Championship game in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and falling just short, the Red Flash will hope the "third time is a charm" saying is true.

The game against the Buckeyes is SFU's second meeting in three years in Columbus, and last time SFU trailed by just three at halftime and gave OSU a legitimate fight up until the final horn.

Despite having four seniors, Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) leads a relatively young squad as it has six newcomers entering the 2014-15 campaign. Hayward earned All-NEC Preseason Team honors after she averaged 17.3 points per game and led the league in three-pointers as a junior. The Red Flash was picked to finish fifth by the league coaches.

After its first road tilt, SFU comes home to Loretto for three non-conference home games at DeGol Arena, followed by a trip to Tennessee to play the Lady Volunteers.
