MILLSBORO, Del. - The No. 10 Saint Francis bowling team went 2-1 in Sunday's bracket rounds to finish fifth in the UMES Hawk Classic.
The Red Flash started the day on fire averaging over 220 in winning the first three games in their match against UMES. However the Hawks battled back to take the next three games, tying the match at 3-3. In the deciding seventh game, UMES prevailed in a tight deciding game, 204-203. The Red Flash regained their strong form, averaging 204.2 in the final two matches. The Red Flash bested North Carolina A&T and Sacred Heart. Both matches saw the Red Flash prevail 4-1.
The Red Flash finished the weekend with a strong 10-5 record in a very strong field of teams.
Leading the Baker averages for the Red Flash this weekend were
Shelby Derr (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) with a 20.63,
Ashley Howe-Yorio (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) (19.98),
Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) (19.63) and
Sarah Ross (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) (18.87).
"This squad is trending in a positive way each time out," head coach
Tom Falbo said. "Today saw more of our potential and a valuable lesson learned as we move forward. The ladies had a strong tournament."
The Red Flash will next compete at NEC No. 2 on December 6-7 in Elmwood Park, N.J.
