LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 11, 2014) – On Saturday afternoon, history will be made as Saint Francis U will host Bowling Green in the first ever NCAA Division I women's basketball game held at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown.
Â
The Red Flash women continue the 'home series' that the men's team started last season on Veteran's Day when it hosted Navy.
Â
Bowling Green comes to Johnstown sporting a 4-2 record so far in 2014-15 and the program made it four rounds through the WNIT Tournament last March.
Â
Saint Francis made the short trip to Ohio last season to face the Falcons in late December and showed signs of brilliance in the second half nearly making a comeback, but fell on the road.
Â
Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) is leading the NCAA in scoring at 27.7 points per game, while ranking second in the nation in three-point field goals made per game at 4.17. Hayward's next closest competitor in scoring average is Kelsey Plum of Washington at 26.3 ppg.
Â
SFU does not return to Loretto until Jan. 3 for Northeast Conference play. It will close out its final four non-conference tilts on the road starting with Duquesne on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
