LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis looks to win its third consecutive game and second straight on the road when it heads to Rutgers on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The game will be shown live online on Big Ten Network Plus.
Â
The Red Flash dominated Duquesne on Wednesday night as it led from wire-to-wire in a 67-52 victory.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had 16 points and
Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) had 14 to lead the Flash scoring. The Red Flash's victory over Duquesne was its first since 1990 and Saint Francis' first victory at Duquesne since 1966.
Â
The Flash will look to break some other streaks against the Scarlet Knights. Saint Francis is looking for its first back-to-back non-conference road victories since defeating Youngstown State and Morgan State Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2008. An SFU win would also give the Flash a three-game non-conference winning streak. That last occurred in Dec. 2003. The Flash defeated Bucknell, American and VMI.
Â
A repeat performance from Wednesday night's victory at Duquesne would go a long way towards meeting those goals.
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds in his 30 minutes of action against the Dukes. He accounted for a full third of the Flash's rebounds as it outrebounded the Dukes, 45-29.
Â
The Flash also won the battle in the paint thanks to early domination by
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter). He scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the first 8:18 of the game as Saint Francis outscored the Dukes 14-0 in the paint in that span. Brown continues his pursuit of the 1,000-point mark on Saturday, sitting just seven points away. He will become the 39th player in school history to achieve it, and the numbers suggest it should come at Rutgers. Brown has six double-digit scoring outputs in the Flash's last seven games and he is averaging 16.5 points over his past four games.
Â
The Flash again controlled the three-point line against Duquesne from both sides. SFU hit eight more threes, the fifth time this season in nine games. Saint Francis leads the NEC with 71 made threes and a 37.6 percentage. On the defensive side, the Flash is 13th in the NCAA and leads the NEC allowing just 26.6 percent from long distance. The Flash held the Dukes to just 27.3 percent from three-point range, including a 1-for-8 mark (12.5 percent) in the second half.
Â
Rutgers defeated Manhattan, 63-55, at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon. Forward Kadeem Jack led the Scarlet Knights with  24 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Junior Etou added 16 points and eight rebounds. Rutgers (6-4) has wins over Clemson and Vanderbilt so far this season.
Â
A win against one of the newest teams in the Big Ten would give the Red Flash its first win against a current Big Ten opponent other than its three wins against Penn State. The Nittany Lions are the only team from the Big Ten that Saint Francis has played more than once.
