Lehigh Escapes Men’s Basketball, 61-59

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2014) -- The Saint Francis U men's basketball team dropped a heart breaker to the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks 61-59 Wednesday night.

"I am proud of the way our guys battled," said SFU coach Rob Krimmel "We had a little stretch in the first half were I thought we lost focus on both ends of the floor, we didn't execute offensively, and defensively they were getting whatever they wanted. Give credit to that last group at the end of the first half; they did a great job of getting us back into the game."

A deep 3-pointer by Georgios Angelou (Halkida, Greece/Lykeio Kanithou) capped an 11-2 Saint Francis run, narrowing the Lehigh lead to nine points.

At the break Saint Francis trailed Lehigh 38-28.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) facilitated a 10-0 Saint Francis (3-4) second half run, slicing the once sizeable Lehigh (3-4) lead to a measly four-points.

With the Mountain Hawks on their heels, Saint Francis continued to dial up the intensity. Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) converted a 3-pointer giving the Red Flash their first lead 49-48 since the 15:31 mark of the first half.

Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored a game-high 22 points; the senior also grabbed six boards at the Stabler Arena.  Major (12) and Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) (10) marked double-digit performances in the game. Drinnon matched Earl with six rebounds.

The Mountain Hawks held a considerable advantage at the free throw stripe attempting 29 free throws to SFU's 11.

"Down the stretch I thought we did a great job executing and getting the shots we wanted to get," said Krimmel. "The thing we have to learn from this is on the road against good teams you can't have breakdowns."

SFU struggled in the first half committing eight turnovers, while only converting on 2-of-9 free-throw attempts. Saint Francis reached the charity stripe twice in the second half.

Saint Francis has now lost nine straight games to Lehigh.

The Red Flash return to DeGol Arena Saturday at 2 p.m. facing off against UAlbany for Kevin Porter Day.
