Flash Ground Seahawks to Win Fourth Straight

BOX SCORE STATEN ISLAND, N. Y. (Feb. 1, 2014) – The Saint Francis University women's basketball team scored 83 points in 29 minutes en route to a 92-78 victory against Wagner on Saturday afternoon to win its fourth straight game.

Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) led all scorers with 34 points for the Red Flash (8-12, 6-3), including a 19-of-25 mark from the free throw line. The 25 free throw attempts sets a new Saint Francis U school record. Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) added 23 points and knocked down six triples, including five in the second half. Jordyn Peck and Jasmine Nwajei scored 27 and 21 points for the Seahawks (4-16, 3-6), respectively.

"I was proud of how we were able to battle back after our slow start in the first half, Wagner really came out well to start the game," SFU head coach Joe Haigh said.

Saint Francis started the game slow as Wagner scored the first eight points. Rebecca Keegan (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) hit a three-pointer to get SFU on the board nearly three minutes into the contest. The Seahawks extended its lead to 13 points at the 10:45 mark, before Saint Francis started to make its push.

SFU went on a 10-0 run over a span of three minutes towards the end of the first half and narrowed the deficit to just two with 4:28 to play. The Frankies trailed by two at halftime, 37-35.

Saint Francis started the second half on a 13-2 run where it took its first, and the game's only lead change. The Seahawks battled back and after a 10-2 run of their own, narrowed the margin to just two with 7:46 to play.

Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) knocked down a clutch three-pointer to put SFU back up by five and it never looked back.

Saint Francis shot 40 free throws in the contest, knocking down 29 of them. SFU also won the rebounding battle, 55-39.

"Alli did a great job getting to the free throw line and she showed a lot of toughness today, Alexa made some clutch shots when we needed her the most to keep our lead going," Haigh continued.

Bridget Murphy (Bethlehem, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) added 11 points off the bench and Aisha Brock (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) posted 10 points.

Saint Francis will finalize its four-game road trip and look for a little revenge on Monday at Bryant, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. SFU lost on a buzzer beater on Jan. 13, 88-86, inside DeGol Arena.
