Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) eclipsed the 2000-career point mark in a hard fought, 97-80, loss to Mount St. Mary's on Monday evening.
The Mount (17-11; 12-4) extended its winning streak to seven games, giving the Mountaineers a 7-1 record in the month of February.
With 13:29 remaining in the first half, Williams surpassed the 2,000-point mark connecting on her second three-pointer of the contest, giving the Red Flash (11-16; 9-7) a 16-13 lead. Williams finished the game with 22 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.
Williams became just the fourth player in Northeast Conference history to reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, and the third Saint Francis U player to do so (Jess Zinobile/Beth Swink).
Even more significantly, Williams became just the 11th player in NCAA women's basketball history to have at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 steals.
Midway through the first, The Mount went on a 9-2 run giving the Mountaineers a 25-20 advantage over the Frankies. Saint Francis rallied as
Bridget Murphy (Bethlehem, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) drained a fast break jumper narrowing The Mount lead to 27-25 with 4:45 left before the break.
At the break SFU trailed The Mount, 38-34.
Saint Francis committed 14 first half turnovers, but controlled the boards grabbing 23 rebounds to The Mount's 17. The Mount capitalized off SFU's mistakes scoring 15 points off turnovers.
Mount St. Mary's controlled the second half off its three point shooting. The Mountaineers failed to connect on first half threes, they were 0-of-8, but found the bottom of the net in the second, connecting on 7-of-11.
The Mount had four players in double figures; Sydney Henderson led the way with 25 points. Mount St. Mary's shot a stunning 71 percent in the second half, its largest lead, 24 points, came with under three minuets to play in regulation.
Saint Francis gave up 33 points off turnovers, while allowing 46 points in the paint.
SFU's last lead came at the 3:44 mark in the first half off an
Erin Blaine (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) layup. The Flash out-rebounded The Mount 36-to-28 and held a 9-to-0 advantage in second chance points.
Saint Francis returns to action Saturday afternoon on senior day against Robert Morris, tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
