Red Flash remains in sixth place despite loss at Wagner

BOX SCORE NEW YORK (Feb. 27, 2014) – Wagner turned it on mid-way through the first half and didn't let up as it bested Saint Francis U 74-45 at the Spiro Sports Center Thursday night.

With the win, the Seahawks locked up the second seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference tournament.  The Red Flash, by virtue of a St. Francis Brooklyn upset of Bryant, remained slotted for the sixth seed.

"Give Wagner credit.  They're a physical, athletic team and I thought they took us out of our game and forced us to be a little hesitant," said Flash coach Rob Krimmel.

"In the second half they started running downhill.  They're playing well right now.  They've got a good squad and against a team like that you've got to make sure that you do the little things.  I didn't think we did that tonight."

Mario Moody – who was held scoreless in the teams' first meeting this season – led the Seahawks to their seventh straight win with 19 points.  Kenneth Ortiz and Latif Rivers chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) led the Red Flash with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) tossed in 11 points, all coming in the second half.

Kenneth Ortiz scored seven points in the first 3:09 as Wagner raced out to an early 9-0 lead.  The Red Flash responded to pull to within three (15-12), but the Seahawks outscored SFU 37-18 down the stretch to head into the intermission with a 35-22 edge.

Saint Francis shot 25.0 percent from the floor in the contest – its lowest clip of the season.  Wagner, on the other hand, doubled up the Flash converting on 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts.

Saint Francis closes out the regular season on Saturday when it visits Mount St. Mary's.
