BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2014) – Saint Francis was able to apply heavy offensive pressure in spurts, but several lapses cost the Red Flash as it fell, 3-1, at the Stokes Soccerplex Saturday.
Â
The Flash looked happy to be at home early on after a 20-day road swing, as
Eloá Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Jose Maria Matosinho) opened up the scoring in the 11th minute. Nascimento controlled a ball from freshman
Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) and knifed through the box for the score.
Â
Longwood's Amanda Spencer answered nearly two minutes later on her team's first shot of the afternoon. Teresa Fruchterman tacked on one more in the 19th minute and the Lancers carried the 2-1 margin into the intermission.
Â
The Red Flash had several great offensive opportunities to start the second half, but Spencer tallied the period's only goal in the 59th minute to set the final.
Â
Saint Francis outshot the Lancers 10-to-9 – including 8-2 in the first half – and held a 6-to-4 edge in shots on goal.
Â
The Red Flash remains at home to play to Duquesne on Friday at 4 p.m. The Dukes are 2-1-2 entering Sunday's match at West Virginia.
