Early lead not enough against Longwood

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2014) – Saint Francis was able to apply heavy offensive pressure in spurts, but several lapses cost the Red Flash as it fell, 3-1, at the Stokes Soccerplex Saturday.

The Flash looked happy to be at home early on after a 20-day road swing, as Eloá Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Jose Maria Matosinho) opened up the scoring in the 11th minute.  Nascimento controlled a ball from freshman Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) and knifed through the box for the score.

Longwood's Amanda Spencer answered nearly two minutes later on her team's first shot of the afternoon.  Teresa Fruchterman tacked on one more in the 19th minute and the Lancers carried the 2-1 margin into the intermission.

The Red Flash had several great offensive opportunities to start the second half, but Spencer tallied the period's only goal in the 59th minute to set the final.

Saint Francis outshot the Lancers 10-to-9 – including 8-2 in the first half – and held a 6-to-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Red Flash remains at home to play to Duquesne on Friday at 4 p.m.  The Dukes are 2-1-2 entering Sunday's match at West Virginia.
