Flash Media NotesLORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francs Red Flash faces a stiff test on Sunday afternoon as another of the three first-place teams in the NEC comes to DeGol Arena at 2:00 p.m. The St. Francis (N.Y.) Terriers enter the game with a 4-1 record in NEC play, matching the Flash.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) hit a game-winning shot as time expired in the Flash's 79-78 win over Sacred Heart on Friday night.
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) recorded his first double-double of the season, posting a mammoth game of 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Terriers defeated Robert Morris on Friday, 68-63. Brent Jones led the team with 23 points and six assists.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW1. The Red Flash moved to 6-0 at home for the first time since the 2003-04 season. A win Sunday would give the Flash its best home start since 1998-99, when SFU was 8-0 to open the year.
2. At 4-1, SFU is off to its best start in NEC play since 1997-98. The Flash started 5-1 that year.
3. The Flash moved to 7-1 in games when it hits at least eight three pointers.
EARL BROWN HITS THE GAME WINNERBrown was the focal point of the Flash's late-game offense. With the scored tied at 76 with just under 20 seconds remaining, the Flash went to Brown in the low post. Brown spun into the lane and was fouled with a bump to the face. With eyes watering, Brown made the second shot to give the Flash a one-point lead with 14 seconds to play. After a Sacred Heart timeout, the Pioneers used a lob on its inbound play from under the basket. Jordan Allen's short jumper was good, and Sacred Heart had a 78-77 lead with 7.4 seconds remaining.
Â
The Flash decided not to call a timeout, and
Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) sprinted the length of the floor and into the paint. His layup was short, but
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) found the loose ball and made one of those "big shots" as he laid it in just before time expired.
GREG BROWN GETS SEASON HIGH AGAINST SACRED HEARTGreg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had one of the highlights of the night, taking a
Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) lob for a thundering alley-oop to tie the score at 14 in the early going. He finished with a season-high 14 points, including four points down the stretch as the teams traded baskets.
DRINNON GETS FIRST DOUBLE-DOUBLERonnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview) had double-digit points in four games this season and double-digit rebounds in four games, but none of those came on the same night. That changed on Friday as he finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He entered the game averaging nine rebounds per game, and that has jumped to 10.2 after his effort Friday.
FLASH HOME WIN STREAK AT SEVEN Â The Red Flash moved to 6-0 at home with its win against Sacred Heart. That moved the overall home winning streak to seven games dating back to the final home game of last season. A win Sunday would give the Flash its best home start since 1998-99, when SFU was 8-0 to open the year.
FLASH GUILTY OF STEALINGSaint Francis had nine steals against Sacred Heart on Friday night, tying the second-highest total of the season.
Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) led the team with three steals.
Ronnie Drinnon (Jamestown, Ohio/Greenview),
Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) and Dom Major each had two steals. Millaud-Meunier tied his career high with his three steals.
PUTBACKS-The Flash committed a season-low six turnovers against Sacred Heart. SFU moved to 7-3 in games that it turns the ball over less than its opponent.
-The Flash just played back-to-back games against the same opponent for the first time in 10 years. It happens a second time this season. The Flash plays Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Jan. 31 and on the road on Feb. 5.
