Flash Hosts Wagner in NEC Opener

FULL PREGAME NOTES (pdf)

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 2, 2015)
– After a very strong non-conference schedule, Saint Francis U looks for a fresh start as it hosts Wagner for the Northeast Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Flash enters the game ranked 10th in the NEC with a 1-10 record, while the Seahawks are ninth at 2-9 overall. SFU earned its lone win against Coastal Carolina on Dec. 21 before playing back-to-back days against Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

The Mountaineers were ranked in the National Top-25 poll all season, but dropped out when the poll was released prior to tip-off on Monday. Wagner has won its last two games, which were against Stony Brook and Columbia.

The game promises to offer some offensive highlights for certain as the league's top two scorers will face each other. Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) ranks first overall and fourth in the NCAA in scoring at 24.7 ppg, while sophomore stud Jasmine Nwajei is at 23.1 ppg and is fresh off a 40-point performance.

Joe Haigh has compiled a 3-0 all-time record against Wagner, with two of those victories coming last season. The Seahawks earned an NEC Tournament berth as the No. 7 seed in 2013-14, which was its first postseason they made since the 09-10 season.

Saint Francis plays in a rare NEC double-header on a Monday because of the New Year's Holiday, the men will follow the women's tip-off at 5 p.m. against Robert Morris.
