Flash Looks For Sweep of Wagner Thursday

LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis Red Flash hits the road this weekend, starting with its second game of the season against Wagner. The Red Flash split consecutive one-point games last weekend, defeating Sacred Heart and losing to St. Francis Brooklyn. That's the first time SFU played in back-to-back one-point games since 1977.

The Flash used a season-high 13 three pointers while holding Wagner to just 18.8 percent from beyond the arc as the Red Flash cruised to a 85-68 victory in the NEC opener for both teams on Jan. 3. Dominique Major (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) and Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) each made four threes for the Red Flash.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. The last time the Flash swept the season series with Wagner was 2000-01. The Flash also won the lone meeting with Wagner in 2005-06.

2. The Flash has lost back-to-back games just once this season and is 5-1 in games following a loss this year.

3. The Red Flash fell to 1-6 in games where it scores 59 points or less. SFU is 9-1 in games when it reaches 60 points.

MATCHING THE WIN TOTAL
The Red Flash has surpassed numerous milestones this season, but perhaps the most significant in terms of the team's success this year has been its record. The Flash currently sits at 10-7 and 4-2 in NEC play. SFU's victory over Sacred Heart on Friday night gave the Flash its 10th victory, matching the entire season total of wins from last season.

The next win for the Flash will give the team its first 11-win season since 2009-10. The Flash went 11-19 that season. SFU is in search of its first winning season since 2004-05 (15-13 overall, 10-8 NEC).

BUZZER BEATER MADNESS
The Red Flash had itself a very unique weekend. Saint Francis hadn't played a single game this year decided by one point heading into Friday's game against Sacred Heart. That changed when Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter)'s putback beat the buzzer to give the Flash a 79-78 victory over the Pioneers. Two days later, the Flash were on the wrong side of a one-point game, losing 60-59 to St. Francis Brooklyn on another buzzer beater. On that play, it was originally ruled no-basket on the floor, but a replay review changed the call to award the basket - and the victory - to the Terriers.

The last time the Flash played in back-to-back one point games was nearly 38 years ago. The Flash beat Canisius at home, 59-58, on Feb. 9, 1977. The Flash then lost at American, 64-63, in its next game on Feb. 12, 1977.

SPORTSCENTER TOP-10 WORTHY
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter)'s buzzer beater on Friday night made national news, as it was selected at the No. 4 play on ESPN's Sportcenter Top-10. St. Francis Brooklyn's Chris Hooper had a humorous quote following his buzzer beater on Sunday afternoon to beat the Flash: "I'm going for No. 3," he said with a laugh in his postgame comments with the media. It dropped to number six later in the night. Watch it below:

GREG BROWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACTION
Junior Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had the ball in his hands in each of the exciting finishes this weekend. On Friday, he brought the ball up the floor and missed the first chance before Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored on the offensive rebound. On Sunday, Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) again brought the ball up the floor with the Flash down, 58-57. He was fouled on his drive to the basket. He promptly made both free throws and would have been the hero if it wasn't for Hooper's putback with about 0.2 seconds on the clock.

JACKSON IN DOUBLE FIGURES AGAIN
Senior guard Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) scored 11  more points on Sunday against St. Francis Brooklyn, giving him seven double-digit scoring efforts in his past eight games. Jackson is now averaging 8.3 points per game and is still the NEC leader in three-point shooting. He's making 44.1 percent of his three-point attempts.

STREAKS ENDED
Many of the statistical indicators coming out of Sunday's game with St. Francis Brooklyn would point to a Red Flash win, but the buzzer beater ended several streaks for SFU. The Flash lost for the first time when leading at halftime and is now 9-1 in that category. It was also SFU's first home loss of the season, dropping the team to 6-1 at DeGol Arena. The Flash also lost for the first time in an afternoon game, moving to 6-1 in games tipping off prior to 5:00 p.m.
