LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 23, 2015) -- The Saint Francis U men's volleyball squad fell to the No. 2 Lewis University Flyers 3-0 Friday night. Ranking No. 2 in the country the Flyers claimed there fifth win of the season in front of an wild crowd at DeGol Arena. Lewis jumped out to a hot start in the first set, finishing off the Red Flash in 25-14 fashion.
Entering the second set trailing 1-0 Saint Francis had their work laid out before them. The Flyers struck early opening the second set with a 3-0 lead. Saint Francis used its first timeout down 8-3. Out of the SFU timeout, the Frankies went on a 7-3 to tie the Flyers. Both teams exchanged ties until Lewis found their form and forged ahead for a 25-19 second set win.
The Flyers ended the third and final set on an 11-1 rally. Saint Francis fell 25-10 to the No. 2 Lewis Flyers.
Jeremy Gatson led the SFU squad in kills (8), while
Tony Nicotra (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) recorded the team-high attacking percentage (.444). Nicotra tallied five kills in nine attempts.
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) recorded the lone service ace against the top ranked Flyers, he also collected 12 assists.
Saint Francis completes the weekend's action by hosting the No. 1 Loyola-Chicago Ramblers on Saturday at 7 p.m. Loyola-Chicago ranks No. 1 after receiving 269 votes and 17 of the 18 first place votes.
